Okay, so last Thursday I got my 2nd of 3 laser skin resurfacing done. There is a new after treatment protocol that hurt like mad for the first hour after (but bearable), and DIDN'T puff my face up like a balloon for days after, and seems to be healing quicker. Very nice. BUT, there is still the issue of the fact this process will activate cold sores (or any other dormant infection you my have). I got a doozy of a cold sore last time- it spread, it was huge and lasted for 2 weeks! So, this time I was prepared and took a prescription prior to and after treatment. After the meds ran out, TA-DA- a cold sore!
So, after deciding that I was doomed, I was up until about 2a.m. looking for miracles on the Internet because neither Abreva nor Campho-phenique worked last time. I think it actually made it worse. Campho usually works for me. So, this time, I was looking for something different. Let me tell ya, I found a few odd things that many people swear by to kill a cold sore:
1. Nail polish remover. Bummed because I didn't have any (and I really looked hard).
2. Perfume. Didn't care to try that.
3. Water/bleach. I see the reasoning.
4. Urine. Um, not just no...
5. Earwax.
This last one intrigued me. It is supposed to keep it from spreading and nip it in the bud. The others dry it out. Well, I think I may have been too late cuz there was already a blister or two. Bummer, and I just cleaned my ears. But, I am desperate, so what I did have went on the cold sore. This morning it was all crusted over and seems to be less red. What the heck? Our bodies are made to heal themselves. I'll have to let you know how it went. I will toss the Abreva if it really works.
Do you have other weird home remedies? Tell me. I am probably crazy enough to try them. Here's another we used as kids: pickle juice on a sunburn. Works well!
update:
A week later, the cold sore is gone thanx partly to earwax and the rest because I probably confused the thing so much with all the stuff I tried on it, it likely decided it just wasn't worth it. So, yeah, I tossed the Abreva!
